A group of 12 Reference Cities,
with experience in dealing with distressed areas and regeneration processes, was established
in order to create a broader level of comparison and encourage the interactive exchange of
experiences. The Reference Cities contribute towards the collection of examples. The empirical
research undertaken within the participating cities, along with LUDA project dissemination
and networking activities, will contribute to the creation of a pan-European network of
practitioners and researchers. This network will address the complex problems of urban
distressed areas and look to fill knowledge gaps in terms of large urban distressed areas.
