The jurisdiction of the City of Dresden, capital of Saxony, encompasses ten districts and eight newly incorporated townships, covers about 330 sqkm and is the home of about 475.000 residents.The Planning Division, sited in the Department of Urban Development, is responsible for planning and zoning within the whole jurisdiction. The main tasks are the development of the city’s land use plan, neighbourhood zoning plans (incl. urban design), framework plans in that context and plans for the infrastructure development. This also includes the responsibility for the designated subsidy areas (nine for rehabilitation, three for redevelopment, one for historic preservation), indicating the competence for the application of urban development subsidies.
